My Role

As the major sponsor of the Australia Football League, Toyota briefed us to create a live site activation which engaged with footy fans at the MCG during the Toyota AFL Grand Finals Week. Having the largest designated space at the MCG Grand Final Village we needed to create a spectacle which was infectiously sharable on social media whilst communicated the message that Toyota supports grassroots footy.

We created The Dunkinator! I personally thought it would be a hilarious idea to create a spectacle in which we gave live site punters the chance to kick a footy at a target in order to attempt to ‘dunk’ their footy idols. To stay true to the brief for every successful ‘dunk’ we gave the ‘dunkee’ a chance to win $10,000 for their grassroots footy club.

We also had the exclusive right to give away the last tickets to the Toyota AFL Grand Final, so we filled a Toyota Hilux with footy balls and gave live site viewers the chance to guess how many footies were in the car - to be in with a chance to win the last tickets. A nice touch was that there was the same number of footys in the Hi-lux as there were the number of grassroots clubs Toyota had supported in 2017.

The Toyota AFL Grand Finals week was a resounding success with footy idols such as Luke Hodge, Jarryd Roughead and Jonathan Brown making an appearance at the Dunkinator, resulting in a packed out area of spectators and hopeful ‘dunkers’ and an incredibly delighted client.
